Documentary Soundtrack Analysis- Sugar Rush

I decided to use the documentary Sugar Rush for my soundtrack analysis as it is the same topic of our short film and therefore would be beneficial to deconstruct the sounds of this documentary as it helps give us an idea of the music we should aim to have.

Unlike most media products, documentaries are not fully reliant on soundtracks. This allows the visuals of the product to speak louder than the music in a creative sense.

Sound Track Analysis- Sugar Rush

Throughout there is a non-diegetic soundtrack which is the background music of the slow piano.  This runs over the dialogues in the short film. The narrator and interviewees are talking the level of sound decreases and the music gets lower, in the audio of the non rehearsed interviews there are some diegetic background sounds .

In the final minutes of the film, the background music pace is increased and a sharper drum is added. This fades to concentrate on Mike’s voice as he is speaking and then to the credits.

For our short film, we are going to use something very similar to the soundtrack in this piece. Slow paced and more focused on the narration. the music we will be using will probably be from a search engine however we would like to try and compose our own piece. this will consist of slow playing music throughout until the end of the short where an equilibrium is reached then the pace will pick up slightly to show the change
