Plot summary

The plot summary of our short film is bringing awareness to Diabetes and looking at two people which have the disease but live very different lives. The first patient- Jeppe has had diabetes all his life. This is type 1 diabetes however he does everything he can in order to maintain his health, he takes his medicine on time, eats healthy and exercises as well as being very sociable . Jeppe is a tall, physically fit teenager which you would not expect to have diabetes, this challenges the stereotyping of diabetes.

We then meet our second patient-Abdul who has type 2 diabetes, Abdul does not take care of himself. he ignores his medicine and eats junk food regularly. Abdul would be the typical person you would expect to have diabetes. Unhygienic, lazy and does not care about his appearance.

The plot thickens when Abdul collapses and Jeppe is left to save him.Coming out of his favorite fast food restaurant Abdul has a Hypoglycemic attack and is left unconscious, Jeppe is then jogging by and sees this happen and immediately injects Abdul with insulin, this is when Abdul changes his ways in which he treats himself and starts to be more careful.

Costume and Props

Props

As this is an informative documentary our props will be kept very simple. we will be using only a hand full of props.

prop list:
Insulin pen
fastfood tray
blood glucose machine
car keys

Insulin Pen
the insulin pen is a very important prop in this film as it blatantly shows the differences of character between Abdul and Jeppe. when Abdul ignores the insulin pen it foreshadows later events and therefore tells a story through it.

Fast food Tray
The fast-food tray that is dramatically dropped when Abdul goes into a hypoglycemia attack represents just that, all the unhealthy lifestyle choices he made and how it back fired on to him.

Blood glucose machine
In the very start of the film we see jeppe use this to measure his glucose levels, this shows he takes care of himself more than Abdul and wants to remain health, as you see from Abdul's house he doesn't even owe one of these.

Costume

Costume is a very important factor in this film, as each character represent themselves through their clothing,
we did not plan the clothing you see in the film this is what they would wear normally.

Jeppe
Jeppe dresses in a typically normal way most 18 year old boys dress, he wears neutral colours and tight fit clothing, Jeppe represents most stlye of the European region and therefore our audience can relate.

Abdul
Abdul dresses in the typical way most people from the arab regions
do, loose fitting clothes and dull/plain colours, abdul is also seen wearing hats which is very common at this age.

Social media research

From our audience feedback through the questionnaire we found that using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube will give us a range of platforms to promote and distribute our product. As well as, using our personal social media platforms including Snapchat to bring attention to the website.

Looking at the chart above, the most popular platforms of which the audience would like to see are Instagram, twitter and Facebook so although we have decided to do YouTube as well our main focus will be on the most popular.

On our website, there are links to all of these plus more which can be found in the corner of the website and is very easy to navigate

YouTube

YouTube is a video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. The service was created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. In November 2006, it was bought by Google for US$1.65 billion.

Facebook

Facebook is a corporation and online social networking service headquartered in Menlo Park, California, in the United States, facebook has one billion active users as of 2012.

Instagram

Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your mobile phone, then choose a filter to transform the image into a memory to keep around forever.

Casting choices

Due to our film being about a serious disease we decide to have only 2 main characters and 2 informative characters, rather this will help reiterate the message in the film.

Main actors

Jeppe

This is Jeppe, he's our health character in the short film, jeppe has diabetes and therefore he knows the risks and prevention to it. he has been our main source of information when it comes diabetes related issues. his character will show how to take care of yourself and your diabetes through out our short film. you will see him go to doctors appointments, eat health and take his medication.

 Abdul

We will use abdul has the character that faces struggles with his diabetes, this will be due to the fact he doesn't take care of himself, this will show the audience the dangers of being unhealthy with diabetes, throughout the short film he learns to live a healthy lifestyle and change his ways.

Informative characters

Doctor
The doctor plays the informative character in our short film, he will tell our audience the serious affect of diabetes and how this can be maintained at a health level or prevented.he will give facts about diabetes in Qatar and around the world.

Patient

One of the main ideas of our film is to use a patient who mistreated his diabetes and lead to complications in his life later on, we would like to speak to him and ask him what he did and this would make our audience aware of the real dangers that come with the mistreatment of it.
