Documentary Editing Analysis-Sugar Rush

Once again, i have decided to use the sugar  rush documentary as it is very similar to the product we wish to create and therefore acts as a good guideline when it will come to making the informative short film.

As this short film is a part of the informative convention, there is a constant role of interviews and observational scenes throughout,
In this short film it is clear there is motion picture editing, the opening scene starts with jump cuts from the black scene to his hands with a blurred vision affect added through the editing process, there is also background music playing however this is the dominating sound of the scene until he starts to narrate over the music, having these techniques within the first minute of the film helps draw the audience in and would encourage them to keep watching.

Most short films do not follow continuity editing, much like sugar rush they jump from one scene to another, we see this from the doctors office to the live interviews and the day event, the short film is not set to go through one full day but through many days and different timings, this is known as non continuity editing.
Although it was very successful in this short film i do not think we will be using non continuity as our short follows the basis of 2 teens daily life.

Simple editing techniques such as jump cuts and blurred effects added on to the scene are another type of editing and this creates an atmosphere for the short film while the audience is viewing it.

Overall, we will take guidance from this short film however also with help from focus groups and questionnaire to get the most beneficial feedback to better our chances at creating a successful product

Below is the video i have discussed in terms of editing, i have pointed out and evaluated the shots and the editing e.g jump cuts, slow paced and continuity.
