Editing Process (sound)

Looking into conventions of a documentary or short film sound has always been one of the elements to it therefore showing it is an important part of a production.
When planning out our product we didn’t have a clear idea of the type of sound needed for such  a film, however after research and consideration, we found a medium between upbeat and slow showing both sides to our short.
Although the music is not constant through the whole short, it is uniform throughout. The music varies from upbeat to slightly slower paced to a period of silence then in the final scene back to upbeat.
The sound clips are at  level -6 to – 12 throughout the short film rather than the original, we used this level because it seems the optimum sound level throughout all scenes, it doesn’t over ride the other parts to the scene.
The background music is from this website:

the audio was free.

The sound in our opening scene was non diegetic however the effect given showed it to diegetic. The construction noises gave a representation of Qatar and therefore a strong opening scene. We used final cut pro to edit all sounds in throughout the short. As you can see below, the highlighted yellow box is where the non diegetic sound was added over the establishing shots.

The original audio clip was 17 minutes long and which we cut down to about 3 minutes. The cut down clip was then used throughout the whole of the short.

The final step to our audio was the sound effects, many can be seen throughout our short film i.e. the water running from the tap. All the sound effect audio files were taken from final cut as we did not have the funding to make them ourselves.
